Call for Entries: NPPA's Best of Photojournalism
(Athens, Ga., January 5, 2018) The National Press Photographers Association has opened a call for entries to its Best of Photojournalism 2018 contest for visual journalists and the work they produced in 2017.
The competition has still, multimedia, picture editing, and video divisions and is one of the largest annual photojournalism competitions in the world. The contest is free and open to all visual journalists, whether or not they are NPPA members.
The deadline for the video division is Friday, January 26, 2018. The deadline for the still, picture editing and multimedia divisions is Friday, February 2, 2018, at 3 p.m. EST. You can find a link to the rules, categories, registration and digital entry instructions here.
NPPA’s Best of Photojournalism was launched in 2002 and was first hosted by Poynter Institute, except for the picture editing division which was judged at the School of Visual Communication (VisCom) within the Scripps College of Communication at Ohio University. Ten years ago, video judging moved to Michigan State University, and the still and multimedia divisions were picked up by VisCom.
At Ohio University, Tim Goheen, the director of VisCom, has designated the contest judging days of March 21-25, 2018, as part of the school’s spring celebration of VisCom alumni. NPPA’s Best of Photojournalism at VisCom is coordinated by Professor Emeritus Terry Eiler and professor Stan Alost. The NPPA’s Best of Photojournalism: Video contest recognizes both video photography and editing, and Bob Gould is the competition host at Michigan State University.
