The Gordon Parks Center for Culture and Diversity at Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, KS, has announced a Call For Entries in the 18th Annual Gordon Parks International Photo Competition. The competition honors one of the world’s most famous photographers, filmmakers, novelists, poets, and composers, Gordon Parks, who was born and raised in Fort Scott.
The deadline for entering the contest is July 14, 2006. Winners will be announced during the third annual Gordon Parks Celebration of Culture and Diversity on October 4 at the college. The winning images will hang in a exhibit at the college in September and October and may travel to other exhibit sites during the year.
Last year’s winners were Sarah Meghan Lee of Albuquerque, NM, Benjamin Rusnak of Boca Raton, FL, and Dr. Vme Edom Smith of Chesapeake, VA, all three NPPA members.
The competition awards $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place, and $250 for third place. Honorable mentions may be cited but do not have a cash prize. Each photographer may enter up to four photographs. Each photograph will be judged as an individual entry. No photo essays will be accepted. Digitally altered photographs will be disqualified. There is an entry fee of $15 for each photograph.
