Sisse Brimberg, a freelance photojournalist living in Paris, was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1948. She began her career as a commercial photographer while attending Danish photography education, and after graduating cum laude, operated her own studio in Copenhagen for five years. She then moved to the United States and became a National Geographic contract photographer in 1976. She has been shooting for the magazine ever since. She has been published all over the world, including Mexico City, Brazil, Germany, Greece, and has been exhibited at the International Center for Photography, as well as the Newseum in Washington, D.C.

Sisse Brimberg was awarded First Place in the Picture Story category from the National Press Photographers Association Pictures of the Year for her work on Mexican migrant workers. Her most recent articles for the Geographic include “The Vikings” in May, 2000. Sisse was also one of the five featured photojournalists in the book, “Woman Photographers,” National Geographic. She has recently moved to Paris with her husband, photographer, Cotton Coulson.
