Montano, recently of KCNC-TV in Denver, is the 2008 Best of Photojournalism Video Editor of the Year.
Two time NPPA National Editor of the Year, Shawn Montano is talented. But he is also not immune from economic pressures facing traditional media in the U.S. He was recently laid off from CBS owned and operated station, KCNC, Denver, just days after being celebrated as the best editor in the nation. He's won 3 Heartland Emmys, 2 Colorado Broadcasters Association Awards, a regional Edward R. Murrow Award and numerous NPPA Awards. He's worked at KPHO (Phoenix) and Denver stations, KCNC, KUSA, and KMGH. Shawn has also worked in the production world, editing shows for the Discovery Health Channel. He serves as the Director of the NPPA Cutting Edge Editing Seminar. He has been on the faculty for the NPPA Workshop in Norman, OK and the NPPF Airborne seminar. Shawn's talents are not limited to editing. He writes and field produces stories as well. Shawn is the current NPPA EOY and also held the title in 2002.
Shawn will cover the basics and complexities of editing video: including sequencing, using music properly, audio, natural sound, moments, pacing, eye movement, and more. He will show how writing, producing, photography and editing all work together to bring a story to life for the viewer. Whether working in a newsroom, production house, on documentaries or simple daily edits, he knows what it takes. Shawn will also tell about the need to diversify your talents and skills, in today's changing marketplace.
Montano is the 2001 and 2008 NPPA Television Video Editor of the Year and has won numerous NPPA national editing awards, 3 Emmys, and a regional Edward R. Murrow Award.
