Kendal is the picture editor of The Bellingham (WA) Herald. While he was the director of photography at The Bangor (ME) Daily News the photography department was named the Region 1 Photo Staff of the Year/2000 and four out of five photo staffers finished the year in the Top Ten. He was a staff photographer and picture editor at The Rocky Mountain News and at The Anchorage Times. He was also a full-time journalism and photojournalism professor in Portland, OR for three years before returning to the newsroom in Bellingham in 2006.
