Kevin Hartfield

Kevin shot his first professional video more than 26 years ago, and during that time has brought award-winning programming to Denver and its surrounding areas. KCNC-TV was his home for 16 years. As a member of the News 4 team, Kevin was able to grow creatively as a photographer and editor. Later, as Director of Photography, he introduced the 'MTV' look to 'News for Kids'; a national syndicated kids program that aired in over 85% of the nation and has received many EMMY's including 'Best Kids Program.' Kevin also shot and produced 'Balm in Gilead', an award winning documentary. It was not only shown in the Denver market, but it was also given to the Denver Public School system as a teaching tool.

Kevin is one of few photogs that has won a Edward R. Murrow award, and also 2 time Photographer of the Year, (by the National Assoc. of Black Journalists). Kevin has a style that follows the NPPA philosophy, but he can still step 'Out 'da Box'.

Kevin shoots with the eye of an editor and producer, which makes for an efficient and thoughtful videographer, and that's way kool.

As a freelance videographer, Kevin was the owner and operator of 'way kool productions. He worked with one of the nations top production companies in shooting programs for Home and Garden Television as well as the Food Network. As an avid editor, he edited 26 half-hour shows of the 'Winter Gardener', for HGTV. Kevin has shot for a number of HGTV shows. Other clients include network, corporate, and local broadcast companies.

With the current economic climate, Kevin finds himself back at KCNC TV in Denver after 4 years of freelancing. He will be more than happy to share with you his thoughts as to how to 'get out the box' while working nights and weekends, and how to deal with the assignment desk, and producers and reporters.

Kevin is a Denver Native, and the father of three kids (Tamika 17, Tahkera 15, and Jordan 12). If you learn anything this week, learn this: have love for this craft, and you will go far.
