Kimberly Arms Shirk
Kimberly Arms Shirk graduated from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln with a degree in Broadcast Journalism in 1994. Her experience in the broadcast industry includes the study of political journalism at Georgetown, as well as employment at Fox 42 in Omaha, Nebraska, KLKN-TV8 in Lincoln, Nebraska and WOI-TV5 in Des Moines, Iowa. In her time in the industry, she served roles as anchor, reporter, producer photographer and editor.
On September 3, 1997, Kimberly was critically injured in an accident involving a television live truck in Des Moines. She was shocked by over thirteen thousand volts of electricity and sustained severe burns to over twelve percent of her body, including third and fourth degree burns to the right side of her head and her face.
Having faced twenty-eight surgeries in nearly four years, Kimberly is focused on educating others about the dangers of electricity and the injuries it can cause. Kimberly enhances safety training by sharing her story of survival and writes about her personal experience of seeing this tragedy through the eyes of faith.
Kimberly is currently a freelance writer/speaker in Lincoln, NE and working on a book of her own about her experience. She speaks to many groups including corporations, utilities, broadcast organizations and stations, schools and churches.
She and her husband Chad were married just two months before the accident and have two sons, Caleb and Logan.
