Arrival

Plan on being in Norman, Oklahoma, by Sunday morning. We recommend that you arrive on Saturday. All people attending the Workshop must check in between 10:00 AM and 12:30 PM on Sunday March 11th at the Oklahoma Center for Continuing Education (OCCE) Forum building at 1704 Asp Ave in Norman, Oklahoma.

You'll either fly into Will Rogers World Airport or drive directly to the Oklahoma Center for Continuing Education (OCCE) on the University of Oklahoma campus via Interstate 35. OCCE is a 30 minute drive from the Oklahoma City airport. The Workshop begins promptly at 1:00 pm on Sunday and will end at noon on Friday. (We hope you won't have to leave early. You should be able to catch a 3:00 pm flight with no problem.)

Transportation

Rent a car if your budget allows, however Norman is not Los Angeles and your Workshop experience won't be significantly affected if you don't have your own transportation. The Oklahoma Center for Continuing Education is in Norman, approximately 20 miles from the Oklahoma City airport. A local company offers economical limo service between the airport and OU. Workshop classrooms, housing, and dining facilities are all within walking distance of each other. If you are shooting, you will find a car useful (but not mandatory) for going out on assignments.

Housing

Housing arrangements are your responsibility. Your tuition does not cover lodging.

There are a number of motels to choose from within three miles of the Norman, Oklahoma Campus.

What to Wear

Pack a variety of casual clothing. Oklahoma weather can be anything from the sunny 70's to cloudy and cool. It has never snowed during a Workshop and we've only had a few tornadoes.

Equipment Needs

Shoot and Edit attendees must bring their own professional camera. The camera can record to analog video tape, digital video tape, hard drive, or memory card acquisition. Bringing a laptop editing system is encouraged, but it is only mandatory for those shooting P2 AVCI files.

There will be a limited number of Avid editing laptops available for the week. Firewire input is essential when using these systems and the attendee will be responsible for providing the firewire cable. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU INDICATE WHETHER YOU WILL BRING YOUR OWN LAPTOP OR NOT ON YOUR REGISTRATION FORM. IF NOT, NPPA CAN NOT GUARANTEE YOU AN AVID LAPTOP FOR USE DURING THE WEEK.

Other essential equipment includes tapes or hard drive space, tripod, mics, lights, chargers and a rain cover. A thumb drive is also suggested for saving and moving files.

Non-shooting participants are encouraged to bring a DVD with short samples of work to be critiqued. Web sites are also acceptable for review online however the non-shooting participant must provide the laptop.

Odds and Ends

In addition to tuition, your budget should reflect the cost of lodging, meals and travel. We regret that NPPA cannot accept government payment vouchers; registration for military personnel is the same as for civilians. A check, money order or credit card authorization must accompany all applications.

Due to the Workshop's popularity, NPPA reserves the right to allocate 'Shoot & Edit' slots as necessary. Shoot and Edit slots are for those anxious to have a hands on learning experience complete with direct critiques of work done at The Workshop. Non-Shooting participants learn vicariously thru the Shoot and Edit experience. Those preferring to learn without the pressure of creating on the spot might prefer the Non Shooting participant option. Remember that, except for not having your daily efforts critiqued by the faculty, the learning experience is just as beneficial.
