Les Rose
Les Rose loves his wife, his sons, his friends, his family...and life itself.
He is downright thrilled to be a photographer for CBS News in Los Angeles...especially shooting the "Everybody Has a Story" segment. He freely admits he works with the best correspondent/writer/producer...and yes...Avid editor...there could be to tell stories with. Steve Hartman and Les have worked together for going on 9 years now, and they still get along!
It gets better: his boss, Jennifer Siebens, is the best boss in America. The series would not happen without her.
Technical, he's not. He could care less about the model number of his camera...he just wants it to work. He DOES care greatly about catching moments and someone saying, "That was a good story." Not..."that was a cool shot". Do you understand?
He has never blown a fuse in a subject's home.
He has won awards, but who cares? He is far more proud of his family, friends', and coworkers' accomplishments...and those boys of his. Should you win an award for telling a story that makes people motivated and feel something, that is terrific. He hates to break it to some of you, but it's about the story, subjects, and viewers...not you, your reporter, or anchors. It's also about being a human being in the process.
He has more friends than follicles...but his forehead makes a handy reflector. You will never see him in shorts. He has an ever-growing love for teaching and is always thrilled and shocked when he is asked to help. He loves Poynter, the NPPA, and the Hawaii Association of Broadcasters. He misses volunteering for the Big Brothers. He misses his parents much more.
Try not to get him started about the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Cheap Trick...though he also likes Lit, The Wallflowers, and No Doubt. He has been to over 550 rock concerts...18 times for the Stones alone!
He's the NPPA TV Critique Chair. So send a tape!
He is not aging gracefully. He cannot cook to save his life, but hopes Thai food is in heaven. Loves to travel. He has an equal love for Big Sur...and the Vegas strip. It's Ying-Yang. Crashing waves at sunset...people watching at Caesar's. Stuff of life.
Now that you know a little bit about him...and maybe you even have a few things in common...say hello to him.
Just let him adjust that backlight...
