Bellingham Visual Journalism Conference Set For July

 

BELLINGHAM, WA (April 13, 2011) – The 2011 Bellingham Visual Journalism Conference at Western Washington University in July will feature two days of multimedia workshops followed by a day of talented and inspiring speakers, Bellingham Herald photography editor Russ Kendall says.

The first day of workshops will deal with multimedia essentials such as audio quality, interview techniques, story structure, equipment, and ethics. The second day includes hands-on Final Cut instruction with editing coaching from multimedia professionals.

The final day is a line-up of speakers that includes senior producer Meredith Birkett from MSNBC; 2007 Pulitzer Prize-winner Deanne Fitzmaurice; Seattle Times photography editor Kevin Fujii; former Seattle Post-Intellegencer staff photographer Mike Kane; San Antonio Express-News award-winning photojournalist Lisa Krantz; 2010 College Photographer of the Year Rachel Mummey; and 2010 NPPA Region 11 Photographer of the Year Don Seabrook.

Kendall says registration, including lunch, for Saturday's session of speakers is free for any visual journalists who have been laid off from their staff jobs in the past two years due to the economy. Pre-registration is required, he says.
