Jennifer Poggi Named White House Chief Photo Editor, Deputy Director

WASHINGTON, DC (December 20, 2010) – White House official photographer Pete Souza has named Jennifer Poggi to the position of chief White House photography editor and deputy director of the official White House photography office.

Poggi succeeds Alice Gabriner, who is leaving the White House to work for National Geographic. Gabriner was the former chief photography editor for Time magazine before Souza appointed her to the White House team in March 2009. She will be a senior photography editor at National Geographic, according to Kurt Mutchler, Geographic's executive editor of photography.

Before joining the White House photography office in June 2009 after finishing graduate studies, Poggi had been a Knight Fellow at Ohio University while on leave of absence from U.S. News & World Report magazine. She had been the magazine's deputy director of photography. Before that, Poggi was with the Associated Press in New York City. She is a graduate of Syracuse University's photojournalism program at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Poggi succeeds Gabriner in January when the staff changes take place.
