Baumann, King, Elected To NPPA's Board Of Directors
DURHAM, NC (December 2, 2010) – The National Press Photographers Association today announced the winners in November's month-long election for two seats on the board of directors and Regional leaders.
J. Bruce Baumann was elected to NPPA's board of directors, and Michael P. King was re-elected. They will take office on January 1, 2011, and will serve a three-year term. Leaving the board at the expiration of her term at the end of this year is Merry Murray.
Baumann is the 1992 winner of NPPA's Joseph A. Sprague Award, the organization's highest honor, and the Jim Gordon Editor of the Year award in 2005. He's the retired editor of the Evansville Courier & Press, and currently the editor and publisher of a new online venture, Posey Magazine. After working as a photographer and editor at National Geographic, Baumann enjoyed a long newspaper career that included leadership positions at the San Jose Mercury News and The Pittsburgh Press before Evansville. As a shooter, he was Region 4's Photographer of the Year in 1968, 1969, and 1970.
Serving his second term on NPPA's board, King is a Wisconsin-based photojournalist who specializes in local journalism and multimedia storytelling. Today he's a staff photographer at the Wisconsin State Journal, and before that he worked for the Green Bay Press-Gazette. King is a graduate of Ohio University's School of Visual Communication, and he's worked for The Post-Crescent in Appleton, The Columbus Dispatch, and the Evansville Courier & Press.
The board of directors will meet for two days beginning January 14, 2011, at the NPPA offices in Durham, NC.
