WAVY-TV Wins Medium Market Station Of The Year; Delozier Wins Solo Video Journalist

 

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (March 1, 2010) – WAVY-TV of Portsmouth, VA, has been picked as the Medium Market Station of the Year for their entry in the National Press Photographers Association's 2010 Best Of Photojournalism Television contest today by judges at the competition's host site, The Poynter Institute for Media Studies in St. Petersburg.

Judges picked WHTM-TV of Harrisburg, PA, as the runner-up in the Medium Market SOY category.

Also today, Dave Delozier of KUSA-TV in Denver was named the winner of the Solo Video Journalist category for his story "Being There For Betty." Delozier also finished second in the category for "My Funny Valentine," and Taylor Kearns of WIS-TV in Columbia, SC, won third place for "Bark From Below."

In the Sports Feature category, Corky Scholl of KUSA-TV in Denver won first place for "Dumptruck," and second place was Jonathan Malat of KARE-TV in Minneapolis for "Billy." Third place is Drew Cook from WAVE-TV in Louisville for "Anyone Can Try," and honorable mention was awarded to Anne Herbst of KUSA-TV in Denver for "Lucha Libre."

WAVY-TV's winning SOY entry included the stories "He's got his gun out" in Spot News by Colin McIntyre; "Virginia's Niagra Falls" in Deadline News by Matt Mrozinski; "Hot, Wet Fun-raiser" in General News by Andy Miller; "Monster Mess" by Aaron Kurtz; "Just what are those Limits?" by Mike Akin; "Marching Monarchs" in News Feature by Colin McIntyre; "It's OK to Slobber" in 48 Hour Feature by Matt Mrozinski; "I'm Doing It" in Sports Feature by Andy Miller; and "A Moment I'll Never Forget" in Team Shoot by Matt Mrozinski, Andy Miller, Colin McIntyre, Chris Reckling, and Brian Parsons.

The Large Market Station of the Year will be named on Thursday, and Video Editor of the Year and the Ernie Crisp Television News Photographer of the Year will be named on Friday.
