More Newsroom Cuts At Chicago Tribune

CHICAGO, IL (February 12, 2009) – There were more cuts from the newsroom today at the Chicago Tribune, part of their going plan to cut costs as advertising revenue continues to decline.

The layoff of at least a dozen people, including closing the Tribune's bureaus in Jerusalem and Rome, included Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Don Terry, a business writer, a food writer, a photographer, a multimedia producer, and the newspaper's comics coordinator, Crain's Chicago Business reported.

In addition, features writer Charles Lerouz and assistant managing editor Jeff Lyon are leaving under an earlier buyout plan, Crain's said.

Employees were told Monday that 60 jobs in all departments were going to be trimmed.

In December, a dozen Tribune newsroom jobs were cut. That was the third round of layoffs at the paper in 2008; about 100 jobs were cut in the spring and in 80 people left in August (30 took buyouts, 40 were cut).
