David Burnett's "Soul Rebel"

NEW YORK, NY (February 6, 2008) – Photojournalist David Burnett appeared on ABC's Good Morning America this week and talked about his first book, "Soul Rebel: An Intimate Portrait of Bob Marley in Jamaica and Beyond."

The video of Burnett's interview is online here.

In addition to talking about how his collection of Marley photographs came to be a book, Burnett also talked about what it was like to cover Sen. Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama during the campaign.

Surprisingly, this is the veteran photographer's first book, and the photographs were organized by his daughter, a story he tells in the interview.

Burnett is well known in the photojournalism community for his continued use of large-format cameras from the 1950s. He's been an NPPA member since 1967. The photographer has covered every American president and presidential campaign since John F. Kennedy, and has covered every Summer Olympic Game since 1984.

During his career Burnett has worked in more than 75 countries, and he covered Vietnam for Time and Life magazines and also shot assignments for them in Miami and Washington, DC. He's the co-founder of Contact Press Images, and for more than 30 years he's been one of America's foremost magazine photojournalists. In 1973 his coverage of conflict was recognized with the Robert Capa Gold Medal, and in 1979 he won the World Press Photo Premier Award. In 1984, the Overseas Press Club recognized his photographs with the “Olivier Rebbot Award” for the “Best Reporting from Abroad.”
