Sarasota Herald-Tribune Cuts 20 More Jobs

 

SARASOTA, FL (October 10, 2008) – While saying that the newspaper "remains profitable" and that she "intends to keep it that way," Sarasota Herald-Tribune publisher Diane McFarlin announced yesterday that 20 more jobs are being cut from the newspaper.

The cuts eliminated 40 percent of the paper's photography department.

"Economic conditions have continued to deteriorate to an extent that we did not anticipate," McFarlin said in the Herald-Tribune announcement.

Three photographers, plus one recently vacated photo position, were cut. A year ago there were 11 jobs in the photography department; two positions were cut during the summer.

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune is owned by The New York Times Co.

In August the Herald-Tribune cut 33 jobs, and in November 2007 there were also layoffs.
