SAN FRANCISCO, CA (October 6, 2008) – Photojournalist, professor, and author Ken Kobre has launched KobreGuide.com, a new Web site he calls "an online guide to the Web's best video and multimedia journalism – or, as we call it, the Web's most moving stories."
The new Web site is online at www.kobreguide.com.
Kobre, an NPPA member since 1977, says the site will focus on "handpicked, high-quality documentary-style journalism" that is being produced primarily by major media outlets "and is frustratingly difficult for consumers to find."
Besides being a photojournalist and heading San Francisco State University's photojournalism program, Kobre is the author of the book "Photojournalism: The Professional's Approach," a keystone in photojournalism textbooks since 1980 and now in its sixth edition.
Kobre is the new Web site's publisher and editor-in-chief, and Betsy Brill is the managing editor. Jerry Lazar will serve as the site's editorial director and former NPPA president and Brooks Institute of Photography photojournalism program founder Jim McNay is the site's senior editor.
The site launched featuring the home page stories "The Music Man" by Matthew Orr and Allan Kozinn for The New York Times; "Peace Pilgrim" by Sharon Janis, Khashyar Darvich, and David Mueller for Karma Tube; "Railfans At Fullerton Train Station," by Sachi Cunningham and Jeff Bass for the Los Angeles Times; and "Goodbye, Shea Stadium," by Adam B. Ellick, Jay Schreiber, and Chang W. Lee for The New York Times.
