November Deadline For Getty Professional, Student Grants
NEW YORK (October 3, 2008) – The deadline to apply for one of Getty Images' Grants for Editorial Photography, which is entering its fifth year, is November 15, 2008.
New this year is a student category which Getty said it created to "encourage promising photojournalism students throughout the world."
Winners of the Getty Grants will be announced in February 2009.
Getty Images will award five professional level grants of $20,000 each, $100,000 total, to "fund, inspire, and support the best global talent in photojournalism." Two Getty Grants are awarded in February and three later, in September.
Four grants of $5,000 each will be made to students in the new student category, which is aimed at students where are under the age of 30 and who are enrolled full-time in an accredited photojournalism course. Two student grants will be awarded in February and two later, in September.
Getty says that both professional and student grant recipients will receive collaborative project support from Getty Images picture editors as their projects proceed.
Applications for the Getty Images Grants for Editorial Photography must include a written proposal of 500 words "to explain the scope, significance, and journalistic merit" of the project, and a supporting photographic portfolio of 20 to 25 images of the applicant's previous work.
Grant applications are accepted in digital format only. Judges will be announced later in October. Complete submission guidelines and additional information about previous winners and their projects are online here.
