Survey On Photographers' Backgrounds, Socialization Influences

BOSTON, MA (May 21, 2008) – Freelance photojournalist Roger Archibald of Boston is conducting an online survey to gather statistics and information in preparation for a visual literacy conference in Oxford, UK, and he would like for professional photojournalists to participate in a Web-based questionnaire.

Two decades ago Archibald did his communications masters degree research on the socialization influences experienced by people in the course of becoming professional photographers. Since so much has changed in 20 years, he wants to update what's taken place in the profession to supplement his existing data. His survey examines the backgrounds of professional photographers living and working in America.

Archibald says the online survey takes about 10 minutes, and the research follows strict ethical guidelines that insure complete confidentiality for the participants and anonymity.

The only requirement for participating in the survey is that a survey respondent be a professional freelance or staff photographer living and working in the United States who derives more than fifty percent of their income by producing photographs.

The survey is online here, and will be available for approximately two weeks.
