NAIROBI, KENYA (May 28, 2008) – Police say photojournalist Trent Keegan has been found dead in a drainage ditch near a main highway that runs through the capital. Officials say Keegan, an Irish national who was born in New Zealand and who's been based in Galway in Ireland, had visible injuries to his head.
The photographer was identified by police who compared his picture from his own photography Web site to an Irish driver's license found on his body. Police have opened an inquest into Keegan's death, Agence France-Presse reports.
Keegan's Web site shows photography projects he had shot recently in Kenya, and his biography says he's been shooting assignments for Irish newspapers and magazines and has won awards for his work from the Irish Press Photographers Association.
On his Lightstalkers.org page, which he updated only two days ago, Keegan posted that he was currently looking for a freelance reporter who might be interested in doing feature stories with him in East Africa.
Keegan reportedly had a sister living in Britian and his parents living in New Zealand.
