MULTIMEDIA: The Race To Be Best Is On

LOUISVILLE, KY (March 20, 2008) – In the race to bring award-winning multimedia photojournalism to the Web, the National Press Photographers Association is helping photojournalists by putting the leaders in visual journalism at their fingertips. NPPA’s Multimedia Immersion workshop and annual meeting in Louisville opens on May 27 and offers training in audio, video, editing, and Web presentation with an intense four-day workshop that puts the latest equipment in your hands and the best teachers by your side.

Convergence ‘08 is the direct result of NPPA members asking the NPPA to be more relevant to their lives, to help give them the tools and the skills to better compete in a dramatically changing news environment,” event chair Russ Kendall said.

“Besides offering the powerful Multimedia Immersion workshop, we’re also offering sessions to help young visual journalists get that first job, sessions to help freelancers better understand the reality of doing business as a solo practitioner, and sessions designed to help mid-career visual journalists cross-train into other highly-employable fields.

“In addition to the many hands-on workshops, the very finest still, television, and multimedia journalists will be presenting and speaking about their inspiring work. There will be formal and informal portfolio critique sessions. Where else can a young photographer have their work looked at by a Pulitzer Prize winner? There will be the opportunity to network with others, to recruit, to get a job, or to change jobs. Whether you’re just starting out in visual journalism or well into a satisfying career, this is one weekend you can’t afford to pass up,” Kendall said.

Registration for the Convergence '08 and Multimedia Immersion workshop will open after 11 a.m. on Monday March 31, 2007. Please visit www.nppa.org/professional_development/workshops_and_seminars/convergence/2008/ at that time to register and for more event information.

“In a recent NPPA membership survey the two most important elements members looked for in our events were location and topics,” NPPA executive director Jim Straight said. “So the planners are really focusing on the topics this year, looking at the things that our members have told us that they need to know. We’ve brought back the very popular Multimedia Immersion program, and the annual awards dinner is on the final night. As far as location goes there aren’t too many cities more accessible than Louisville. Flights are abundant, and it’s less than a 12-hour car ride for half of America’s population. Join us in Louisville in May at the Downtown Marriott for what promises to be a great opportunity.”

Convergence '08 is sponsored by Canon, Nikon Professional Services, and NPPA.
