Call For Entries: 20th Annual Gordon Parks Photography Competition

 

FORT SCOTT, KS (February 2, 2008) – The Gordon Parks Center for Culture and Diversity at Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, KS, has announced a Call For Entries in the 20th Annual Gordon Parks International Photo Competition. The competition honors one of the world’s most famous photographers, filmmakers, novelists, poets, and composers, Gordon Parks, who was born and raised in Fort Scott.

It's also the center's 5th year of hosting the Gordon Parks Celebration of Culture and Diversity, which this year will be held October 1-4, 2008.

The deadline for entering the contest is June 30, 2008. Winners will be announced during the Gordon Parks Celebration of Culture and Diversity in October at the college. The winning images will hang in a exhibit at the college in September and October and may travel to other exhibit sites during the year.

Last year’s winners were G.M.B. Akash of Hamburg, Germany; Lisa Wiltse of Clovelly, Australia; and Olivier Asselin Rimouski of Quebec, Canada.

The competition awards $800 for first place, $400 for second place, and $200 for third place. Honorable mentions will receive $100 each. Each photographer may enter up to four photographs. Each photograph will be judged as an individual entry. No photo essays will be accepted, and digitally altered photographs will be disqualified. There is an entry fee of $15 for each photograph.
