It's Time To Register For The Kalish

MEMPHIS, TN (January 14, 2008) - Scott Sines says it's time to register for The Kalish, version 2.008.

"For those who have experienced The Kalish, you might think about coming back because it’s much different. If you’ve never been to The Kalish you should go this year," Sines said. "The focus of the workshop remains visual storytelling, but the curriculum has been expanded to include cross platform, multimedia editing and production.

"We've retained the best of the print instruction including team exercises for the front page and picture pages, as well as, a full day of management sessions for those trying to move up and be better advocates for visuals in their organizations. We’ve integrated cross-platform considerations into every session and we've added a full day of multimedia exercises including SoundSlides, storyboarding and basic video production.

"And, we’ve added a full day to the workshop and cut the price."

Sines also encourages attendees to consider asking a newsroom manager to attend the Poynter Seminar in March, in an offer that will stretch a company's training dollars and inculcate managers with the potential, and the pitfalls, of multimedia storytelling. "For those companies sending a manager to Poynter, and a mid-level manager or staff level person to Kalish, we'll discount the tuition for each workshop by $50," Sines said.

The Kalish Workshop will take place at Ball State University, May 30 - June 4 and June 6 -11, 2008. For more information and an application form go to www.kalishworkshop.org or eMail Sines at sines@commercialappeal.com.

The Poynter Seminar, "Digital Photo Editing: Print to Motion/Motion to Print," runs from March 25-29, 2008. Sines says that to take advantage of this discount offer, please send an eMail stating your newsroom's intention to enroll in both programs to Nafi Schwanzer, program coordinator, at nschwanzer@poynter.org.

The deadline for applying to The Kalish is February 28.
