DURHAM, NC (July 14, 2007) – Shawn Montano, director of the Cutting Edge IX: Order of the Edit workshop, announced that the 2007 seminar will be held September 8 in Nashville, TN, at Belmont University's Bunch Multimedia Hall from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. Cutting Edge is an NPPA educational workshop with emphasis on the craft of editing. This year's program is co-hosted by Belmont University's New Century Journalism Program.
"The roundtable style seminar worked so well this past January in Springfield, Missouri, that we've decided to continue in this unique format," Montano said. "And breakout sessions are new to the workshop, ones for editors and for photographers. You can choose to attend one, or both."
Topics at this session include "The Art of Natural Sound"; "Opening and Closing Shots"; and "Separating Yourself from the Group." The "Cutting Edge Editor of the Year" will also be named at the workshop.
Faculty for this workshop includes Lou Davis, chief photojournalist for WTVD-TV in Raleigh-Durham, NC. "In the course of his 11 year news photography career, Davis has won 56 AP, NPPA, Emmy, and RTNDA awards, including being named a finalist for the NPPA Television News Photographer of the Year in 2000, the 2003 Region 9 Television News Photographer of the Year, and an honored recipient of a 2004 National Edward R. Murrow Award," Montano said.
Matt Rafferty is also on the faculty. He's a video editor at WJW-TV in Cleveland, OH. "In his two decades in broadcast TV, he has been honored with many awards, including the prestigious Alfred DuPont Award, 10 Emmys, and he was the 2004 NPPA Cutting Edge Video Editor of the Year," Montano said. "Before WJW-TV he also worked for CNN and television stations in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and Atlanta."
Montano rounds out the Cutting Edge faculty and is director of the workshop. He's the 2001 NPPA Television Video Editor of the Year an has won numerous NPPA national editing awards, 3 Emmys, and a regional Edward R. Murrow Award. Montano works at KCNC-TV in Denver, CO.
Advanced online registration is $50 for NPPA members ($60 at the door), and $70 for non-members ($80 at the door). There's a group rate of $300 per group (at least 3 must be NPPA members) or $330 at the door.
