Durham Freelance Photojournalist Sues Police
DURHAM, NC (June 27, 2007) - Freelance photojournalist Julian Harrison, an NPPA member since 1998, has sued the city of Durham, NC, and two members of the city's police department claiming that on several occasions they have violated his civil rights.
The News & Observer reported in a story by Matt Dees that Harrison's lawyers filed the suit in federal District Court last week, and that the suit claims Harrison has been "harassed, assaulted, battered, unjustifiably arrested, and falsely charged with crimes" while doing his job as a journalist.
The suit cites seven times that Harrison was arrested, going back as far as 1992 and as recently as last November.
