Frank R. Beardsley, 81

 

OAKHURST, NJ (May 10, 2007) - Frank R. Beardsley, 81, the retired photography editor of the Asbury Park Press, died Tuesday at home.

"Frank was a true newspaper photographer and he dedicated his entire career to the Asbury Park Press, and to the many photographers' lives that he touched over the years," NPPA Region 3 director Tom Costello said today. Beardsley worked for the newspaper for more than 46 years before retiring in 1989.

Beardsley was born in Jersey City and had been a lifelong Shore area resident, moving to Oakhurst 40 years ago. He was the recipient of numerous awards from the N.J. Press Photographers Association and from the National Press Photographers Association. He served on the Ocean Township Board of Education for seven years. He was a member of the Antique Motoring Club of Monmouth County, and he was a parishioner of the Atonement Lutheran Church, Asbury Park where he was an usher at the church and a volunteer in their food pantry.

Beardsley is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan Frederickson Beardsley; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carol Heaver of Oakhurst, and Sharon and John Adamo of Silver Spring, Md.; a grandson, Steven Heaver of Newark; and a cousin, Frank Mulligan of Point Pleasant.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until his funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Atonement Lutheran Church, First and Heck avenues, Asbury Park. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Atonement Lutheran Church, or to the American Heart Association, 1 Union St., Suite 301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691.
