Apple One-Day Photo Contest For Students Is This Friday

 

(April 24, 2007) – Apple Inc. will hold its first-ever one day "Insomnia Photo Festival" photography contest for students this coming Friday, with a photography assignment that will be posted on Friday afternoon which must be completed and submitted within 24 hours.

Entries will be posted on an Apple Web gallery, and then the public will view and rate them. The top 25 highest rated photographs will be judged by a panel of experts in May and winners picked in two categories: the audience's choice and the judges' choice.

Judges who will pick the winning photos are Sports Illustrated photojournalist Bill Frakes; photojournalist Ron Haviv of Agency VII, Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer and former New York Times staff photographer Vincent Laforet; National Geographic photographers Sisse Brimberg and Cotton Coulson, who are now based in Copenhagen with their Denmark-based partnership KEENPRESS; National Geographic photographer Jim Richardson; wildlife and nature photographer Bob Smith; and photojournalist Ami Vitale.

Grand prize winners will get a 15" MacBook Pro, a copy of Apple's new photography software, Aperture, and an 80GB iPod.

The contest is open to all student photographers in the United States attending an accredited high school, college, or university, and must be 18 or older to submit an entry or designate someone over the age of 18 to post the submitted photograph. Only original photographs made for this contest are eligible to win. Eligible students must be registered before 5 p.m. EST on April 26, 2007.
