Jack Zibluk Elected NPPA Vice President

DURHAM, NC (March 6, 2007) – NPPA national secretary Sean D. Elliot announced today that the special election to replace the organization’s vice president is complete and the board of directors’ votes have been counted and certified.

Jack ZiblukJack Zibluk, NPPA’s Region 7 director and an associate professor of photojournalism at Arkansas State University, has been elected vice president. He will assume his post immediately and will be sworn-in to his new office during the Executive Committee meeting in late March.

Elliot informed the candidates of the results, congratulated the winner, and thanked board member Brad Ingram and former board member Pat Holloway for running for the office. Region 7 associate director Karen Segrave, of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock, will assume the post of director and will appoint a new associate director to fill her vacant post.

“I’m very excited to have Jack join our team on the Executive Committee,” NPPA president Tony Overman said tonight. “For many years, Jack has proved to be a dedicated supporter of NPPA’s programs and overall mission. His skills as a knowledgeable voice on the board of directors earned him the support of his colleagues, who elected him to this leadership position. I look forward to working even more closely with Jack, and utilizing his academic expertise to help NPPA better serve our members with innovative educational tools.”

The special election to fill the vice president's post became necessary after photojournalist Scott Utterback of WAVE-TV in Louisville, KY, resigned the position on January 3, 2007.

Zibluk has been the coordinator for the NPPA’s national student clip contest, and he’s also NPPA’s national student internship chair and the recipient of NPPA’s Robin F. Garland Educator Award. He’s a frequent columnist for News Photographer magazine, writing on issues relating to higher education and photojournalism ethics.
