Newark Star Ledger’s Tony Kurdzuk Named NSC Photographer Of The Year

 

WARWICK, RI (March 10, 2007) – Tony Kurdzuk of the Newark Star Ledger was selected Northern of the Year during the 26th annual Northern Short Course in Photojournalism in Warwick, RI, on March 10. Josh Meltzer of the The Roanoke Times placed second and Chip Somodevilla of Getty Images placed third. "Best of Show" went to Mary Calvert of The Washington Times.

NSC 2007 chairperson Damon Kiesow said that Nikon presented a D200 camera to Kurdzuk along with his award during the NSC Awards Dinner Saturday night, which followed three days of hands-on workshops and speakers.

The Northern Short Course Board met for their annual business meeting on Friday, March 9, and the board voted to accept and reappoint the following members of the organizing committee: Michelle McLoughlin, Registration; Bill Auth, Logistics & planning; Harry DiOrio, Saturday NSC lecture series; Tom Costello, A/V production; Jay Capers, Exhibitors / Sponsors; Bob Davis, TV program; John Walker, Portfolio Reviews; Keith Nordstrom, Web; Tom Kelly, Steve Falk, and Tom Kelly IV, the NSC Contest.

Kiesow also reports that the NSC board agreed to eliminate the annual Saturday awards dinner in 2008, and to replace it with an expanded evening reception to honor the winners. John Harrington, Caroline Couig, and Will Yurman were accepted as permanent NSC Faculty members to serve as discussion leaders for the Business, General and Multimedia educational tracks. And the NPPA Regional officers from Regions 1, 2 and 3 accepted the nomination of Kiesow to be reappointed as chair of the regional event.
