INDEPENDENCE, MO (February 27, 2007) – A special scholarship program was established in 2003 to make it possible for one woman to attend the NPPA’s annual Women in Photojournalism Conference, and conference committee member Patricia Holloway says the scholarship is available again this year.
“Thanks to the success of a special print auction in 2006, we will be awarding one woman a scholarship to attend the ‘Expanding our Vision’ WIPC in 2007,” Holloway said. “An award of $350 will be made to the recipient along with complimentary registration fee for the conference. This award is intended to give someone the opportunity to attend the conference who otherwise might not be able to afford to attend. The money is intended to help defray the cost of travel and hotel accommodations while attending the conference.”
Holloway says the scholarship award will be based on need and size of the market or newspaper where the photojournalist works.
“To apply for the scholarship, please eMail a short note describing yourself, where you work, and your career goals,” Holloway says. Her eMail address is tvphotog@aol.com.
The deadline for applying is June 1, 2007 and the award will be made by June 10, 2007. “A check will be presented Saturday, August 18, 2007 at the ‘Expanding our Vision’ gallery reception,” Holloway said.
The 19th Annual Women in Photojournalism Conference is scheduled for August 17 through 19, 2007, at the Hyatt Regency Downtown Hotel in Austin, TX. For more information please see www.womeninphotojournalism.org.
