Los Angeles Times Wins Best Use Of Photography NPPA Quarterly Clip Contest

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (February 26, 2007) – In the closest finish in the 21 year history of the Best Use of Photography Quarterly Clip Contest, the Los Angeles Times earned top honors for the second consecutive year, edging The Palm Beach Post by 10 points, contest chairperson Mark Edelson announced. The Dallas Morning News placed third. The final results were determined by the BUP 4th Quarter results, which were just released.

Over the course of the year, five categories of usage were judged quarterly, with points assigned for each winning page. Entries were judged by a wide range of professionals at universities, magazines, picture agencies, and newspapers.

“It's important to emphasize, however, that although BUP is a contest, its most important and beneficial aspect is the creation of a continually growing online archive of good and sometimes extraordinary examples of how to effectively use photographs to tell stories in print,” Edelson said. “Thanks to all of the individuals and papers who entered last year.”

Here are the contest’s final standings:

The Los Angeles Times (570 pts)
The Palm Beach Post (560 pts)
The Dallas Morning News (390 pts)
