DURHAM, NC (January 9, 2007) – Sean D. Elliot, secretary of the National Press Photographers Association, has counted the votes and determined winners in Region 4’s December election, and he has also informed the board of directors and executive committee that Regions 2 and 6 have reached the mandated number of candidates required for Regional elections.
“But due to staffing issues at the national office around the holidays, and with the Best of Photojournalism contest that has now started, I have decided to postpone any remaining Regional voting until March at the earliest.”
Elliot also said that if Region 8 fills its slate with candidates, as required by the bylaws, they could also vote in March along with Regions 2 and 6. “If not, that election will continue to be postponed.”
In the Region 4 election that took place during all of December, director Denny Simmons was reelected over candidate Drew Cook to retain his office, and in the associate director’s race Rodney Curtis was elected over candidate Andrew Laker.
Elliot said that 82 ballots were cast by 637 eligible voters, a 13 percent voter turnout. The national secretary congratulated the winners and thanked all the candidates for their willingness to volunteer and to run for office.
