VII Hosts One-Day New York Seminar In September; Eugene Richards Featured

 

NEW YORK (August 15, 2006) - The VII Photo Agency is hosting a one-day seminar at the Parsons School of Design in New York City on September 17 featuring all ten members of the agency as speakers and presenters – including Eugene Richards, who will appear with them for the first time. Richards joined VII in April 2006, and he will present his current photographic work during this session.

VII flyerOther VII presentations include ones by Lauren Greenfield, Christopher Morris, James Nachtwey and John Stanmeyer. There will be a panel discussions on the themes, “THE WAR: 9/11 through to Iraq;” “THE WAY FORWARD: VII and the Role of Photojournalism in documenting the social issues of our time;” “CONGO: The Forgotten War;” and “24/7: The Rise of Arab Media.”

The panels will include all ten of the VII photographers, who will be joined by Simon Barnett of Newsweek; Scott Thode of Fortune magazine; Kathy Ryan of The New York Times Magazine; senior representatives from Time magazine; Al Jazeera; Medecins Sans Frontiers (Doctors Without Borders); and many others. The seminar will also include portfolio reviews and multimedia screenings.

The New York VII Seminar 2006 coincides with the fifth anniversary of the founding of the VII Photo Agency, and the opening reception of Christopher Morris’ new exhibition, “My America,” at the Hasted Hunt Gallery in Chelsea on September 14.

In other VII news, Nadia Cohen has been promoted to director of sales (North America) for the agency, managing all sales efforts out of the company’s New York office. She had previously been a sales executive with VII Photo. Prior to joining VII, she worked for SIPA Press as a photo researcher.

VII was founded in September 2001 by Alexandra Boulat, Ron Haviv, Gary Knight, Antonin Kratochvil, Christopher Morris, James Nachtwey, and John Stanmeyer, who were joined in 2002 by Lauren Greenfield, in 2004 by Joachim Ladefoged, and in 2006 by Eugene Richards. The agency says that it focuses on documenting conflict: environmental, social and political, both violent and non-violent.
