Seth Gitner Elected New Chapters Board Rep

DURHAM, NC (June 3, 2006) – NPPA national secretary Sean D. Elliot announced today that Seth Gitner of the Roanoke (VA) Times and Roanoke.com has been elected as the new NPPA chapters board representative. Gitner, who is a past president of the Virginia News Photographers Association, will serve a two-year term.

“Twelve of the seventeen chapters voted in the special election that was held to replace past chapters board representative Dennis Tennant, who resigned his position in December,” Elliot said. The other candidate running for the position against Gitner was Merry Murray Rogers.

“I want to thank both Seth and Merry for their interest in running and their willingness to volunteer with the NPPA,” Elliot wrote to the NPPA family list. “Merry already serves as chair of the Best of Photojournalism Television competition. While the election was in progress both Merry and Seth made contacts with the chapters in an effort to get a start compiling the annual chapters report for the board. Seth will now have a head start on certifying the chapters’ eligibility for the chapter stipend and start building his network to represent the chapters at the annual board meeting in Tampa.”

NPPA’s board of directors will hold their annual business meeting at the Grand Hyatt Hotel beginning June 22 in Tampa Bay, FL, during the opening days of NPPA’s 60th anniversary Photojournalism Summit.
