NEW YORK, NY (May 5, 2006) - The deadline to apply for the Eddie Adams Barnstorm XIX is rapidly approaching. May 15 is the application deadline and full details and a FAQ are online.

Eddie Adams in Vietnam, late 1960s.Applicants who are accepted will be notified in June. This year's Barnstorm is October 6 through October 9 in Jeffersonville, NY.

Last year's workshop included participants from 39 states and 17 countries who were selected from more than 1,000 applications. Applicants are required to submit a personal statement, a recommendation, and a portfolio of no more than 20 images along with their application and a fee. Prior workshop students are not eligible to apply again.

Adams, a Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist who started the workshop in 1988 as a tuition-free, intensive experience for students and young professionals who are focused on photojournalism, was intent on bringing the industry's best photographers and editors from around the world into close contact with students. The annual event is held in an old converted barn in upstate New York. Adams said the workshop's purpose is to create a forum in which an exchange of ideas, techniques, and philosophies can be shared between the profession's established members and newcomers.

The workshop is tuition-free and the 100 students are chosen based on the merit of their portfolios.

This year's Barnstrom is the 19th year of the Eddie Adams Workshop. Adams died September 19, 2004, at home in New York, and his dream was for the workshop to continue.
