The December 2011 special issue of News Photographer magazine is the annual Best of Photojournalism edition. This issue includes portfolios from the Photojournalists of the Year: Damon Winter, a photojournalist for The New York Times; and Michael Holahan, of The Augusta Chronicle in Georgia, winner of the Smaller Markets title. There’s also a photographic essay from Justin Maxon, the winner of Cliff Edom’s “New America Award,” and a selection of images by Cameron Spencer of Getty Images, the Sports Photojournalist of the Year. These features and more in the December 2011 special issue of News Photographer magazine.

- Miami Cop Who Arrested Carlos Miller Is Media Spokesperson
- Photographer Carlos Miller, who publishes the blog "Photography Is Not A Crime," was arrested while covering the police evacuation of Occupy Miami. Images were deleted from his camera by police, which he's now recovering. And it turns out the arresting officer is the cop's Media Spokesperson. Read More »
- Sacramento Bee Fires Bryan Patrick Over Manipulated Photographs
- The Sacramento Bee has fired award-winning photojournalist Bryan Patrick after an examination determined that one of his section front photographs this week had been digitally altered. In the ensuing investigation editors then uncovered additional manipulated pictures by the veteran photojournalist, which led to his dismissal for ethics violations. Read More »
