2006-2007 Student Photographer of the Year chosen

San Francisco State's Michael Mullady is the NPPA College Photographer of the Year for the 2006-2007 academic year.

Second place went to Justin Maxon (also from San Francisco State); Matthew Williams (from Brooks Institute of Photography) finished third.

Rules

Eligibility

  1. Open to all NPPA student members in good standing.
  2. Participants must be full-time students.
  3. Pictures need not be published.

Time frame and deadlines

The contest is quarterly, designed to coincide with the academic year (September–August).

Pictures taken Deadline
Sept., Oct. and Nov. Dec. 16
Dec., Jan. and Feb. March 7
March, April and May June 7
June, July and Aug. Sept. 7

Number of entries

Each student may enter a total of twelve (12) entries each quarter. If more are entered, all for that quarter will be disqualified. Entries can be in any category or combination of categories.

Individual work

Each entry must be the work of a single photographer. If two or more combine to produce a single layout, each must submit only his / her work.

Categories

  1. News (planned and unplanned events)
  2. Sports (action and features)
  3. Feature Single (a found situation / illustration)
  4. Multiple Picture Story (any subject, including sports).

Individual photos from layouts may be entered separately in another category but count as a separate entry.

NPPA Student Photographer of the Year competition

Each student entering the SQCC each month will receive 2 points for entering the contest. Winners will receive 50 points for first, 40 points for second and thirty (30) points for third. No ties or honorable mentions. The student accumulating the most points for the period of September through August will be named NPPA Student Photographer of the Year, providing he had shown versatility by winning in at least two categories during the contest year.

The SQCC rules rely on the honesty of the participants. Any abuse of trust will not be tolerated and will result in suspension of NPPA membership for a period of time to be determined by the student's regional chair.
