Fifteen-year-old Shawn Rogers does pull ups in the small workout area ajoining the main room at the Christian Activities Center in the Olivette Park neighborhood of East St. Louis. The neighborhood is a complex of 240 apartments where some of the city's poorest live, 97 percent live in poverty. Nearly 200 kids come to the center each day where they are provided with a hot meal daily along with tutoring and classes in martial arts, choir, cheerleading, drama, fine arts, computers and bible study.

Judges’ comments for the category

First Place: A nice look at the inner workings of the Refuge for St. Louis Kids and a nice collection of moments. Second Place: The reopening of the bakery. It was nice to see community support. Third Place: The lottery. Good overall documentary of the night.
