1st Place General News: “Never Forget”
Matt Detrich/The Indianapolis Star

Bruce Musselman of Noblesville, left, holds an American flag as he and Bob Hines of Fishers, right, waves and thanks honking motorists on the 96th Street bridge over I-69 as he and others gathered to remember the tragedy of 9/11 that happened eight-years-ago in New York City. "I can't imagine doing anything else on this day," said Musselman.

Judges’ comments for the category

Several good images in this category. Our top was Never Forget because all the visual elements come together in a unified composition that tells the story. Pre-school Press Conference works very well because of the contrasts in the two people--a preschooler and the mayor--and because of the perfect moment when it was shot. A Docent View we liked because it took an ordinary situation and turned it into a complex and very interesting photograph. What could have been a dull assignment turned interesting because the photographer thought to look at it a different way.
